Poker tips / Re: TIPS TO GET CHIPS

Maybe he figures he's as good as Phil Ivey, so why bother with proper attribution.  Especially when being revealed garners so much respect.

Poker / Re: How Much have you won?

I've been fortunate.  I've won enough over the years to cash out multiple times while still remaining amply bankrolled for the levels I play.  My winnings have been meaningful, at least to me, although nowhere near life-changing.

Poker tips / Re: Don't Wait...!!!

I've seen the argument that taking time is advantageous because it gets people annoyed so they spew off their chips.  While I'm sure this happens to some extent, I don't buy it overall.  A lot of players multi-table and/or multi-task, so they're often not just sitting there waiting and getting annoyed.  And even those who do get annoyed can spew to anyone at the table.  The pauser may be the most likely beneficiary, but there's also a pretty good chance of ending up in a weaker position because another player gets those chips.

Poker tips / Re: Improve your results

I very much agree.  It's not uncommon to see people talk about getting bored and losing focus if they don't keep themselves occupied by multi-tasking.  I do it myself.  However, I don't see any way that doing so helps my poker game.  For example, when I only watch the hands I'm involved in, I have much less opportunity to develop my reads on the other players.

It takes longer to get good by any reasonable measure than it does to cut and paste the same message into multiple forums.

Poker tips / Re: Building Your Bankroll
« on: October 04, 2008, 01:33:10 PM »
As a new, freeroll or low-level player, building a bankroll can be *very* easy.  However, many people take what's easy in theory and make it difficult for themselves in practice by letting their egos get in the way of making money.

There are just two steps:

1. Improve your game so you're good enough so you have a solid +EV at some level.

2. Play at that level and let your +EV work for you to grow your roll.

Fortunately, #1 is pretty easy to achieve no matter what form(s) of poker you prefer.  #2 is where people fall down.  Either they over-estimate their ability and play where they don't have a solid +EV, or they don't let it work for them because whenever they accumulate some money, they blow it off by stepping up to where they no longer have said +EV.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't try stepping up, but rather to do it in a more aware manner where you use your growing roll to fund trials with amounts you can afford to lose if you find you're not yet ready.

Poker / Re: Calls

I get maybe one call every three months on average, so no big deal.  30 seconds or less, and often, I doing something else at the same time, so it not even getting my full attention for those 30 seconds.

Poker / Re: poker bonuses

Pick whichever site you currently play at most and check what the terms there are,  If they're okay, problem solved.  If not, then go to site #2...  But given you're only playing a few hours a week, it's not going to make a huge difference even if you play somewhere with no bonus.

Poker tips / Re: Best Play w/ Pocket Bullets (Call or Raise) Before the Flop
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:17:41 PM »
Unless you have someone still to who's creating a lot of action by raising limpers, the standard play of betting your normal amount is generally best.  I see it time and time again where people limp AA, get in a four- or five-way pot where they're barely or even no favored because no one narrows the field, and then whine when someone outdraws them.

If you're at a table where you have the best of it, why would you want to leave?  The preponderance of expert advice I've seen says to stay as long as you're playing well enough to maintain your edge.

As for yoyoing up and down, that's part of the nature of poker.  Some people have swingier styles, so they'll experience more varuance is all.  The key is that if you play normally tables where your EV is positive, your ups will nicely exceed your downs.

Thanks.  Glad to see you're on it and have taken some action.  Since I once co-owned a large forum (non-poker) I'm very familiar with people trying to beat the system with their forum posts.  And yes, they get old very fast.

It's not up to me of course, but on my forum, I had no qualms about reducing people's point counts, even to zero.  If they got mad and left, what had I lost?  Nothing.

with all the cutting and pasting going on.  There's good enough info in many of the articles, but I've seen quite a number of them before, so from my point of view, they're the same as spam.
